The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) is an annual state-level admissions process organised by the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu. It allows candidates to apply for engineering programs, including Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech),  at colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. 

To be eligible for TNEA, applicants must have completed their Class 12th education or have equivalent qualifications.

TNEA Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions or TNEA exam, candidates must meet certain general eligibility criteria, including age-related and educational qualification-specific requirements.

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates who have completed grades 8 to 12 in the state of Tamil Nadu do not need to submit any proof of nativity. However, candidates who have completed these classes in a state other than Tamil Nadu must submit a nativity certificate. 
  • Children or wards of central government employees who have been continuously serving in Tamil Nadu for the past 5 years must also submit proof of their parent's employment. 
  • Additionally, Srilankan Tamil Refugee applicants must submit an identification certificate from headquarters.

Age:

  • There is no age limit for TNEA applicants, but candidates applying for marine engineering programs must be 25 years old or younger.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have completed Class 12/HSC from a recognised board. The required subjects for TNEA 2022 are Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. 
  • Candidates from the General category must have scored at least 45%  of qualifying marks. On the other hand, candidates from the other categories, such as SC, SCA or ST, must have passed with 40% of the qualifying marks. 
  • For marine engineering programs, candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and 50% in English in their Class 12 exams.

To apply for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) exam, candidates must follow these steps:

  • Step 1: TNEA Registration:- Candidates must visit the official TNEA website and register using their mobile number and email address. They will receive login credentials via email and SMS once the registration is complete.
  • Step 2: TNEA Application Form:- In this step, candidates must provide their personal details, such as their address and valid identification, as well as their academic details, including information about their qualifying exam, the respective board, the year they passed, and their marks.
  • Step 3: TNEA Application Fee Payment:- Candidates must pay the TNEA application fee online, using either a debit or credit card or net banking. It is advisable to consult the TNEA fee structure for reference.
  • Step 4: Review and Submit the TNEA Application Form:- Once the application fee has been paid, candidates must review the information they provided in the application form and submit it.

To apply for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) exam, candidates must pay an application fee. 

  • The expected application fee for TNEA 2023 is ₹500 for most candidates, although SC/ST/SCA candidates will pay a reduced fee of ₹250. 
  • Additionally, candidates belonging to certain special reservation categories may need to pay an additional amount of ₹100. 
  • The application fee can be paid online using a debit or credit card or through net banking, or it can be paid in person at a TNEA Facilitation Center (TFC) using a challan.

Note: *After the application process for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) exam has been completed, the authorities will release a TNEA random number for each candidate. This number is used to break ties between candidates in cases where all other methods of resolving a tie have been exhausted.
