Some are even considering taking a pay cut, starting their own business or becoming a freelancer. Clearly people are feeling the need for change and to upskill.
Other key findings from the study include-
- 30% of people see steady pay as the biggest incentive to stay at a job right now.
- 28% of respondents feel they lack the connections to land a job.
- Increased competition is a worry for 9% of people.
The crux of the matter is that working professionals in India are looking out for better opportunities and for that they need better job-seeking strategies.
Job-Seeking Tips & Techniques
Read on for some key pointers-
Search For The Right Jobs
Don’t apply to every single job you come across. Be selective and focus on the ones which match your skills and for which you have the right amount of experience. This will help you feel confident and work to your advantage during the interview.
Keep Your Job Related Online Profiles Updated
Ensure that your LinkedIn, Naukri, or any other job portal profiles are up to date with the latest information. Recruiters check profiles of potential employees so you should fill up your profile with keywords that would attract a recruiter.
If you don’t know what keywords to use, search for similar positions online and look at their job description.
Personalise Your Applications
Don’t just use the same cover letter and resume for each job you apply to. Tailor and align it to every company. Recruiters love seeing a candidate personalise the application according to their company and it also shows your passion and interest in the role.
Learn A New Skill
If you want to pivot and change your field of work, learning a new skill is the best way to do it. Enroll in online courses and earn certifications to show your new recruiters that you have the required skills needed for the role. This will also look good on your resume as it shows you have taken initiative.
Use Your Network
Stay in touch with ex-colleagues and other people you know professionally. Referrals are the most preferred way of filling open positions. Moreover, most openings never even make it into the public domain, they are filled through contacts. The more people you talk to, the more your chances of landing a job.
Check Out Company Websites
Go to websites of companies you want to work for and check if they have openings. This is a better way to look for jobs as compared to relying on sites like LinkedIn and Naukri because many companies don’t advertise their openings on these sites.
Bypass The HR
Instead of contacting the company HR try to get in touch with a person of the department you are applying to. Message them online and see if they would be up for a chat or even for a meeting. You will be surprised that this can even lead to referrals.
Conclusion
With the pandemic having forced permanent changes in the workplace and employers demanding future-ready skills, it’s no surprise that a lot of job-seekers are having to transition to different industries and learn new skills in order to survive.
But learning new skills is not enough, an effective and robust job-seeking strategy is essential to succeed in this ever-changing world.
